AMIANTIT WINS MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACTS IN SPAIN AND MEXICO Amitech Completes US$ 17 Million Irrigation Pipeline in Spain and US$ 4.5 Million Water Cooling Project in Mexico Dammam, November 2004 – “Amiantit subsidiary companies, Amitech Spain and Amitech Mexico, have completed orders valued at US$ 17 million and US$ 4.5 million respectively for Flowtite GRP fibreglass reinforced pipes.“, announced yesterday by CEO, Fareed Alkhalawi. The Spanish contract was for a 130 kilometres pipeline to transport water for the Canal Alto del los Payuelos irrigation project in the Castilla and Leon region of Spain. Project owner is Aguas del Duero of Valladolid. The consultant engineer was Tragsatec, Madrid, and the contractor was Corsan Corviam / Aldeasa Begar of Spain. Amitech Mexico supplied 40 kilometres of Flowtite GRP pipes to convey water for cooling the energy generators in the city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The whole project was divided into two stages. The first conveys water from a sewage treatment plant at Tanque Tenorio where the purified water is pumped to a tank. The second stage carries conducts the water by free flow from the tank to the Comisión Federal de Electricidad in Villa de Reyes (energy generators). In both cases the owners and contractors first considered metal pipes, but Amiantit’s Flowtite GRP fibreglass reinforced pipes were chosen because of their corrosion resistant properties and their light weight, easy assembly and quick installation. Superior quality, competitive pricing and Amitech’s excellent service reputation were other factors that influenced the decision in favour of GRP pipes. These important contract awards highlight the fact that Amiantit is now acknowledged worldwide as the leading manufacture of GRP pipes and globally recognized as the industry leader in research, development and ownership of pipe manufacturing technologies.
