AMIANTIT SUPPLIES 42 KILOMETRES OF PIPES WORTH 17 MILLION EUROS TO BRING HIGH QUALITY WATER TO ZARAGOZA SPAIN

Dammam, March 2004 – Amitech Spain, a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company, is supplying fibreglass pipes to carry high quality potable water from Acequia del Sora in the Pyrenees Mountains to the Zaragoza region of Spain.

Infrastructure development in the region is the result of new industrial projects that have increased living standards for the 825,000 inhabitants of Zaragoza. A total of 140 million Euros is being invested in the water supply project, of which 17 million Euros is for the pipe system itself.

Amitech Spain was awarded the pipe supply contract in May 2002 by Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL) Spain’s largest construction company, who are carrying out the project for ACESA, a private Spanish company of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2004.

Commenting on Amitech Spain's performance, OHL’s superintendent said earlier about a project in Malaga "The Flowtite pipe is a fantastic product made from the ideal material for this project and OHL is very satisfied overall."

Flowtite is the leading fiberglass pipe manufacturing technology, for which Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company owns the exclusive world patents.

Technological Note:
The technical specifications for the Zaragoza project are high. Amitech was requested to supply 32 kilometres of Flowtite GRP pipes with a diameter of DN 1800; pressure class PN 10/6 and stiffness SN 5000, plus 10 kilometers of diameter DN 1600, pressure class PN 10/6 and stiffness 5000, as well as accessories, flanges, tees and elbows. The maximum flow was defined with 12m3/s. The required pressure stability was with 8 bar maximum static head and 10 bar rating specified. Laying the pipes at a depth of 7 meters underground with compacted native granular soils resulted in a high stiffness class. The post installment leak tightness test demanded no loss over a 12 hour period.
