AMIANTIT CONTRACTS IN TURKMENISTAN WORTH $38 MILLION

Total orders amount to over 634 kilometers of pipes

Dammam, August 2003 - Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company is a major supplier of pipes for water networks in Turkmenistan with orders amounting to $38.4 million for a total 634.5 kilometers of pipes for infrastructure projects. In this connection, Mr. Yuri Leiberoun, Second Secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy, recently visited the Amiantit Fiberglass PLANT in DAMMAM for an overview of the projects that are among the most important to be initiated between the governments of Ukraine and Turkmenistan.

Biggest of the contracts and the most recent to be signed are two orders with a total value of $17.3 million placed through the contractor Interbudmontazh, a Ukrainian company operating in Turkmenistan. The requirement is for GRP pipes with a total length of 373 kilometers, of which 60% are for potable water and 40% for sewage networks in the capital city, Ashgabat. The pipes are being supplied by four Amiantit Group manufacturers located in Dammam, Turkey, Oman and China. To date, 104 kilometers have been supplied and deliveries are scheduled to continue until October 2003, with installation proceeding in parallel. This phase of this project is due for completion in February 2004, after which a following phase is planned and could entail potential orders for a further 400 kilometers of pipes.

Previous Amiantit contracts for the Ashgabat municipal project amount to 224 kilometers of pipes with a total value of $ 18.7 million.

Last year the President of Turkmenistan, H.E. Saparmurat Turkmenbashi, approved a program of development of water supply and sewerage systems for Ashgabat for the period up to the year 2050. The program stipulates the construction of new municipal water supply systems and the fundamental reconstruction of existing networks. By the end of the first stage in 2010 it is planned that the city will be supplied with more than one million cubic meters of water a day. Ashgabat has a population of around 1.1 million and the water use rate is estimated at 400 liters a day for each inhabitant, and a total daily effluent flow of 600,000 cubic meters.

The first contract that Amiantit undertook in Turkmenistan was a $2.4 million order for 37.5 kilometers of pipes for the national oil company, Turkmenneftegaz, that were installed in Balkanabad near the Caspian Sea to supply water for secondary injection in the oil fields.

Saudi Arabian Amiantit is represented in Ashgabat by its Amiantit Caspian branch office with a staff of 10 employees that includes 3 field engineers.
